Door Policy Explained Beginning in the fall of 2002, the BiotechTuesday invitation list started to grow rapidly as many people requested to join. The crowd at the parties also expanded from month to month, making it difficult for us to find large enough venues to accommodate everyone comfortable and safely. We noticed that an increasing percentage of our guests had little or no affiliation with the biotech/pharma industry. Also, many people were not bothering to RSVP, preventing us from giving clubs the meaningful crowd-size estimates they always request in advance (for staffing and security reasons). The new RSVP policy implemented before the March 2003 event states that invitees must RSVP to get on the Guest List; anyone not on the Guest List must pay a door fee of $20 to attend. In addition to motivating our invitees to RSVP, the policy encourages qualified biotech people who are not yet on the invitation list to contact us about joining while discouraging others from showing up unless attending is important to them. Our goal is to offer the Boston biotech/pharma industry a networking event without being unreasonably exclusionary of other guests. While only about 10% of the attendees pay the door fee, these funds help offset the expense of the website and the small paid staff that assists us with the event each month. We are very committed to keeping this a free event for people in the biotech/pharma industry. We sincerely thank you all for attending and for making BiotechTuesdays so successful each month! Sincerely, Seth and Peter p.s. We welcome your feedback.
